Create A Morning Routine

A simple morning routine can set the tone for a successful day.

Mornings can be hectic and busy. This is especially true when you’re responsible for getting others, like children, ready for their day and out the door on time. Starting your day out feeling frazzled, cranky, and overwhelmed isn’t good for anyone.

Let’s work on de-stressing and simplifying your day by creating a simple morning routine that you follow each and every day. Routine = momentum.

Morning routines are unique and personal

A morning routine is a series of predictable actions you take every morning to set the tone for your day. It’s self-care that allows you to begin each day feeling energized, relaxed, and purposeful.

Loving yourself

I highly recommend doing a minimum of 3 things for yourself before you do anything for anyone else. As the airlines recommend: give yourself oxygen before helping anyone else with their oxygen – even your pets or your children.

When my children were little I had to wake up at 5am if I wanted to do my morning routine without being interrupted. It was worth it!

Taking care of you first, is going to make you better at everything else you do for the rest of the day. Here are some ideas:

  • Take a shower and wash your face
  • Get dressed and put on make up (if you wear makeup)
  • Journal
  • Meditate
  • Exercise
  • Read a good book and have a cup of coffee on the back patio
  • Watch the sun rise
  • Do absolutely nothing

Loving your home

Make loving your home a part of your morning routine. Spending five minutes every morning can actually make a huge impact on your clutter. It also makes it easier to keep your home clean and helps you feel like you are making momentum.

You always have five minutes to declutter. Here are some quick, 5-minute decluttering tasks you can add to your morning routine:

  • Wash breakfast dishes and wipe down counters every day, after breakfast.
  • As you walk through the living room pick up anything on the floor and fluff pillows.
  • Add a small load of laundry to the washing machine every morning.
  • Wipe down bathroom sinks, after you brush your teeth.

Benefits of a Morning Routine

Having a routine that starts your day off on the right foot creates positive momentum for the rest of the day. It also helps you wake up with a sense of purpose and empowerment.

Taking time for yourself on a regular basis, particularly at the start of the day, improves your outlook and your coping skills. Your mind, body and soul are comforted in knowing that all is well.

Do this for you:

  • Tonight, plan out a simple morning routine for yourself.
  • Wake up at the same time every morning and start loving yourself and your home.

The key to reaping the benefits of a morning routine is to make it a regular practice. Soon you’ll begin to see your life transform.

Tailor your morning routine to fit your personal preference. You’ll want to consider adding things that will nourish your soul and that are particularly meaningful to you.
